COMMON ACNE IMPOSTERS

 

 Staph Infection (PHOTO ABOVE)

  • Bacterial infection

  • Resembles a boil

  • Not round, its oblong shaped

**Do NOT treat until it’s clear in clinic**

Can begin treatment right away online, however, direct them to a doctor for diagnosis and treatment of the infection

 

Fungal Folliculitis:

  • Comes and goes quickly

  • Common in Summer or in hot climates

  • Looks like Non-Inflamed

  • No core (do a squeeze test)

  • Oil of Oregano is beneficial 

**MANDELIC**

Can’t treat this, but we can guide

Reduce carbs and sugars

 

Rosacea Subtype 2:

  • Central redness

  • Comedone not present

  • No core

  • Ask questions like does skin react to alcohol or spicy foods

**We can treat this type of Rosacea, but only the acne part** Products will help with Rosacea

Use Mandelic Wash & Mandelic Toner, Do NOT use Glycolic

Can try anti-redness cream, but remind to check for pore cloggers

 

Rosacea Subtype I: 

  • We can't treat this
  • Can be managed with IPL and peels
  • Depending on how often to keep the redness down, this could potentially be every two weeks.
  • Can try anti-redness cream, but remind to check for pore cloggers

 

Steatocystoma Multiplex (SM):

  • Excessive Oil

  • No core but oil can be drained

  • Not red 

  • Much larger than non-inflamed

**WE CANNOT TREAT THIS**

 

Microfilaments:

  • Can’t be extracted

  • No oil plug, no black plug

  • Normal part of pore
