Customers will complain about dry, itchy, skin that is showing signs of distress during treatment. This effect is just temporary and a necessary step in healing from acne.
Here are some reassuring talking points you can share with a client who is worried or anxious about their skin's condition:
- Acne treatment products can be drying, the process of removing the the bacteria that cause acne, includes removing excess oil from the skin and dead skin cells, which can clog pores.
- Anytime the skin is over dried, existing lines and wrinkles will become more apparent, particularly fine lines. Most everyone will acclimate if benzoyl peroxide is used correctly and consistently (we slowly introduce this product and gradually increase the strength) and any dryness or irritation caused by BPO will subside. However, skin that is dry and dehydrated does give the illusion of aged skin as it can look creepy with fine lines seemingly overnight! But it's important to remember, this dehydrated skin condition is only temporary and does not affect the skin’s collagen and elastin or age the skin in any way.
- While in the program, moisturizer should not be used at night but can be used during the day between regimens.
- Clients can add anti-aging products to their regimen once they are clear.
