Clinical Aesthetic Services

Title:               Microneedling

Policy:            All clinical aesthetic staff rendering client care will adhere to this protocol

Purpose:          To safely and properly administer Microneedling

Scope:                         All licensed aestheticians rendering client care

Definition:      Clinical Protocol

Indications:  To improve appearance of skin tone and texture.  

 

Contraindications: 

  1. Do not treat if client has a sunburn. Cannot treat clients with frequent unprotected sun exposure or tanning bed usage.  Cannot treat tan skin.
  2. Do not treat if client has a Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) outbreak.  If client has a susceptibility to HSV, avoid common outbreak area with solution.  Can take prescription Valtrex or Zovirax prior to treatment, or immediately after treatment if beginning signs occur.  If client needs a prescription, notify Overseeing Medical Director.
  3. Do not treat if client has significant product irritation.
  4. DO NOT use on open lesions, rashes, burns, or suspicious lesions.
  5. If client is pregnant, written authorization is required from her medical provider approving laser treatment during pregnancy. 
  6. Cannot treat skin if client has been on Accutane (Isotretinoin) within the past 6 months.

 

 

Procedure:       

  1. All clients treated will have a skin history consultation, sign a Microneedling Consent form during which time questions are answered, as well as discussing potential risks, complications, and anticipated results.  These completed forms will be present in the chart.
  2. Any drug allergies will be noted on the front cover of the chart.
  3. Review proper post-treatment instructions as well as product use after treatment. Provide client with typed home care instructions.
  4. Photographs may be taken.
  5. Client will lay in treatment chair, supine and in a reclined position.
  6. Clinician to perform service in latex or non-latex gloves.
  7. The client is properly draped, using linens that are laundered after each use.
  8. Use latex or non-latex gloves.
  9. The skin will be cleansed, with appropriate cleanser and soft gauze, removing all make-up excluding eye make-up.
  10. Apply NeuroMed cream. Massage in for 1-2 minutes.
  11. Set pen to appropriate setting for desired outcome. See “DermaPen Training Documents” for specific settings.
  12. Apply Hylauronic Gel to the area being treated.
  13. Begin treating desired areas/spots as necessary starting on the right cheek and work counterclockwise around the face ending with the nose and upper lip.
  14. Skin will appear pink in treated areas.
  15. Apply additional hyaluronic or botanical stem cell serum.
  16. Apply SPF.
  17. Give client post-care instructions.
  18. Empty and clean steel water bowl with cavicide solution spray for 10 minutes.

 

Complications:

  1. In case of complications or emergency, clients are advised to contact the clinic manager immediately. If clinicians cannot resolve the matter, our Medical Director, Dr. Grover, is to be contacted and available within 30 minutes or the client should call 911.
  2. Refer to Complications Policy and Procedure.
