Clinical Aesthetic Services
Title: Pore Cleanse Facial
Policy: All clinical aesthetic staff rendering client care will adhere to this protocol
Purpose: To safely and properly exfoliate, hydrate, massage, manually cleanse and nourish the skin.
Scope: All licensed aestheticians rendering client care
Definition: Clinical Protocol
Indications: Recommend for teens and acneic clients. To cleanse, exfoliate, nourish, and extract comedones. Can be performed on all skin types.
Contraindications: Use caution when treating sensitive areas, thin skin, or eczema. Facials cannot be performed on clients with an active infection or virus, open lesions, rashes, burns, or suspicious lesions.
Setting-up the Treatment Room:
- Make 2 hot towels 1 hour prior to appointment.
- Blinds are closed so as to create a dark room.
- Pull down top blanket and flat sheet at an angle so that client can go under the covers.
- Place white towel in a triangle shape over an unfolded white towel to go under the head and to wrap the hair.
- Dim light to low.
- Turn lamp to lowest output.
- Fold gown nicely at the end of the bed.
- Turn on steamer to warm up before client comes into the room.
Procedure:
- All clients treated will have a skin history consultation, during which time questions are answered, as well as discussing potential risks, complications, and anticipated results. Each client will have a complete skin history and screening for allergies of topical products that will be applied to the skin.
- These completed forms will be present in the chart.
- Any drug allergies will be noted on the front cover of the chart.
- Client will lay in treatment chair, supine and in a reclined position.
- The client will be draped with towels.
- Clinician to perform service in latex or non-latex gloves
- Clinician should not leave the room for any reason in the middle of the procedure or leave the client sitting without being massaged or treated in some way.
- The client is properly draped, using linens that are laundered after each use.
- The skin will be cleansed, with appropriate cleanser and soft gauze, removing all make-up except eye make-up.
- Remove cleanser with HOT TOWEL.
- Perform skin analysis and report observations to client with any recommendations for treatments or homecare. Keep brief at this time and elaborate after the facial.
- Apply Enzyme with a fan brush.
- Leave on under steam for 7 minutes.
- While client is under steam and enzyme treatment, massage decolette, shoulders, arms and upper back with massage lotion and lavender essential oil for 10 minutes.
- Remove enzyme from face with a fresh HOT TOWEL.
- Cover client’s eyes.
- Turn on magnifying light.
- Perform extractions using any or all of the following: fingers wrapped in Kim Wipes, comedone extractor or lancet.
- Wipe down skin with Glycolic Toner to kill bacteria.
- Clean goggles with 70% alcohol.
- Apply non-pore clogging moisturizer and massage into the skin starting with acupressure massage and following with efflourage.
- Apply non-pore clogging SPF.
- Unwrap hair.
- Massage scalp to end the treatment.
- Recommend home care products after they have changed and returned to check out desk.
Clean-up:
- Dispose of Lancet into sharps red container. Thoroughly clean comedone extractor and place into Cavicide disinfectant tray for 10 minutes
- Empty and clean steel water bowl with cavicide solution spray for 10 minutes.
- Remove and replace bed linens.
- Place dirty laundry and gown in appropriate receptacle.
