Title:               Acne Facial 

Policy:            All clinical aesthetic staff rendering client care will adhere to this protocol

Purpose:          To safely and properly exfoliate, hydrate, massage, manually cleanse and nourish the skin.

Scope:                         All licensed aestheticians rendering client care

Definition:      Clinical Protocol

Indications:     To prepare the skin for the Acne Program. To cleanse, exfoliate, nourish, and extract comedones.

 

Contraindications:  Use caution when treating sensitive areas, thin skin, or eczema.  Facials cannot be performed on clients with an active infection or virus, open lesions, rashes, burns, or suspicious lesions.

 

Setting-up the Treatment Room:

  1. Make 2 hot towels 1 hour prior to appointment.
  2. Turn on steamer to warm up before client comes into the room.

 

Procedure:

  1. All clients treated will have an acne consultation, during which time questions are answered, as well as discussing potential risks, complications, and anticipated results.  Each client will have a complete skin history and screening for allergies of topical products that will be applied to the skin.
  2. These completed forms will be present in the chart.
  3. Any drug allergies will be noted on the front cover of the chart.
  4. Client will lay in treatment chair, supine and in a reclined position.
  5. Clinician to perform service in latex or non-latex gloves
  6. Clinician should not leave the room for any reason in the middle of the procedure or leave the client sitting without being massaged or treated in some way.
  7. The client is properly draped, using linens that are laundered after each use.
  8. The skin will be cleansed, with non-pore clogging cleanser and soft gauze, removing all make-up except eye make-up.
  9. Remove cleanser with HOT TOWEL.
  10. Apply Hydrating Enzyme with a fan brush.
  11. Leave on under steam for 5-7 minutes.
  12. While client is under steam discuss Acne Program.
  13. Remove enzyme from face with a fresh HOT TOWEL.
  14. Cover client’s eyes.
  15. Turn on magnifying light.
  16. Perform extractions using any or all of the following: fingers wrapped in Kim Wipes, comedone extractor or lancet.
  17. Wipe down skin with Exfoliating Toner to kill bacteria.
  18. Clean goggles with 70% alcohol.
  19. Apply non-pore clogging moisturizer and SPF.
  20. Unwrap hair.
  21. Obtain client agreement and complete acne consultation process.

 

Clean-up:

  1. Dispose of Lancet into sharps red container. Thoroughly clean comedone extractor and place into Cavicide disinfectant tray for 10 minutes
  2. Empty and clean steel water bowl with cavicide solution spray for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove and replace bed linens.
  4. Place dirty laundry and gown in appropriate receptacle.
