This is a reply to a client concerned about these two ingredients in our SPF that she is considering toxic:

Both of the ingredients you mentioned are very low on the toxicity scale, and are considered safe by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel, https://www.cosmeticsinfo.org/cosmetic-ingredient-review-cir/

Research shows that the ingredient doesn't get absorbed in the skin in high enough doses to cause harm.   They are used in the product for the following:

• Texture Improvement
• Enhances the Skin’s Hydration
• Increases water resistance, helping the sunscreen stay effective when wet
• Contributes to a smooth, silky and non-greasy texture in sunscreens

Used in other forms such as a spray bottle are known to be more concerning, however not in the form it is currently used in our SPF.

Additionally, while applications like Yuka seem very helpful, they are not a reputable source that we would conduct our research off of.  Clove Hill works closely to ensure all products are safe and effective for their intended use, as our top priority is the safety and quality of our Clove Hill Products.

We also reached out to the chemist for their feedback on these ingredients, and this is the information  they provided:

'We understand your concern, but rest assured that our product development team is always checking the latest published research. The percentages of ingredients in our products are absolutely safe to be used. Cyclopentasiloxane (D5) and Cyclohexasiloxane (D6), ingredients in our products, are safe at the levels we use in our formulations; it is only unsafe to use when very high concentrations of either are present. The toxic compound that there is an issue with is not Cyclopentasiloxane or Cyclohexasiloxane, but Cyclotetrasiloxane (D4), which is a structurally similar but totally different compound that is toxic to reproduction. The Cyclopentasiloxane and Cyclohexasiloxane that we use have very high levels of purity, therefore our products are completely safe to use.'
