When to Occlude vs Treating an Allergy or Eczema

For the reactions we are seeing early on in the program, the answer is not typically occluding.

If there is an allergy or eczema type reaction, we actually don't want to occlude.  I know this is often a go to for us when someone experiences irritation, but we actually want to take it on a case by case basis.

Occluding puts protection over the skin, so when it is really raw- over exfoliated and dry like at the end of the program, or cracked (usually seen around the mouth) this can help. It can help stop water loss & protect the skin from external factors (like when you occlude to swim in a chlorinated pool).

With an allergic reaction, or eczema, our only option might be a topical cream like hydrocortisone or a steroid + removing the allergy-causing product, vs occluding.
