The Fitzpatrick Scale was developed by Dr. Thomas Fitzpatrick. It is used to measure the amount of melanin in the skin and the skin’s ability to tolerate skin exposure. Type 1 is the lightest of all skin types and has the least amount of melanin.

Type 6 is the darkest of all the skin types and has the most amount of melanin.

NOTES:

Benzoyl Peroxide can darken hyperpigmentation. 

If this happens to your client, assure them that it is temporary, and proceed with the following: 

• Use Hydraboost or Hydrabalance
• Wear moisturizer
• Wear SPF
• Lower the concentration of BPO
