Oils in Food

With oils, it is recommended to avoid highly processed vegetable oils that are high in omega-6 fatty acids as they can be inflammatory, and thus exacerbate acne. It is not that omega-6 fats are inherently harmful, but we want to have a proper ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 to provide an anti-inflammatory effect.

Typically with our modernized diet we are getting much more omega 6 than 3. Ideally, we want a ratio of 4:1 omega-6 to omega-3.

That being said, some folks have unique sensitives to certain oils, so this is where a food journal can also come in handy! Some foods can have an effect on hormones, so these might manifest in the "hormone area" on the skin (jawline, chin).
